🎗️ Red Ribbon Week: Expanding Education and Awareness
This October, the TENS Foundation partnered with the Opiate Free Island Partnership to take part in Red Ribbon Week, the nationwide campaign promoting drug-free living and positive choices. Together, we launched an innovative pilot program at Deer Isle High School designed to educate students about Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) and Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome (AWS).
During the week, students viewed The Tram Documentary during a designated class period and completed a brief three-question survey to assess their awareness of AWS. Over the following two months, they will continue their learning journey by viewing seven educational videos from our TENS Foundation video library, each focused on key aspects of AUD and AWS. After completing the series, students will retake the same survey to measure the knowledge gained.

By extending Red Ribbon Week into a two-month learning initiative, this program ensures that students receive comprehensive, lasting education on the realities of substance use and recovery. If successful, the TENS Foundation plans to expand this impactful model to other school districts in the future.

“I never understood how dangerous it was to attempt to detox on your own.”
— John E.

Dear Friends,
From the bottom of our hearts—thank you for being part of the Tram Jam: Coastal Clean-Up on Pond Island.Your presence, your energy, and your willingness to give your time made this gathering so much more than a cleanup. It was a celebration of purpose, remembrance, and hope. We are deeply grateful—not just for your generous donations—but for your gift of time and the shared commitment to building a stronger, healthier community.
Thank you for standing with us, for honoring Tram’s memory, and for being part of something that truly matters.
With appreciation and hope,
The Tram Evans North Star Foundation
Get Sober Safely
Your support is helping us continue our work in three essential areas of the Tram Evans North Star Foundation (TENS):

Tram Jam Coastal Clean Up

Education
We believe in the power of knowledge—and we are committed to educating the public, especially students, on the dangers of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) and Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome (AWS).To date, we have produced a 15-minute mini-documentary telling Tram’s story and seven educational videos that explain how alcohol affects the brain and when medically assisted detox is necessary. These resources are available on YouTube and our website—but that is just the beginning. We are working with the national nonprofit Shatterproof to distribute these materials through town prevention meetings across the country. Locally, we are partnering with the Opiate-Free Island Partnership here in Deer Isle to present our documentary to students and their families.
Support
We are proud to announce the launch of our financial assistance program, designed to help individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, or unable to meet their deductibles. To ensure we can offer real support, we vetted over 15 treatment centers and selected two top-tier partners—one in Jacksonville, Florida and one in Portland, Maine. Both have committed to providing TENS with a 31% discount, so we can help more people begin recovery safely and affordably.
Community
Our clean-up on Pond Island marks the fourth TENS event in the last year. From removing 30 contractor bags of trash off Crow Island last summer to today’s pruning, trail clearing, and shoreline cleanup—our events are always sober, family-friendly, and rooted in wellness and conservation. And we are just getting started. We will continue to hold at least two events per year, with the goal of not only growing our reach, but also deepening awareness around Alcohol Use Disorder, recovery resources, and community resilience.
EDUCATE. SUPPORT. LAUNCH.
Education and Resources
Our goal is to provide a comprehensive educational video library to aid individuals and families in understanding and coping with the effects of Alcohol Use Disorder and Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome. TENS believes in empowering through knowledge and support.
Support
TENS has created a fund to help individuals cover the cost of recovery. We are building partnerships with trusted treatment centers, medical facilities, and recovery programs nationwide. These efforts ensure that those in need have immediate access to professional support—whether it’s for supervised withdrawal, counseling, or long-term care. Our goal is to connect individuals and families with the resources they need, when they need them most.
Community
We will continue to hold events throughout the year to raise awareness and encourage healthy, connected lifestyles. From shoreline clean-ups to wellness-based gatherings, each event is designed to be sober, family-friendly, educational and rooted in community care. As we grow, so will our impact—welcoming treatment center partners, alumni, and supporters alike.
